WORKING FOR WOUNDED WARRIORS

<p>Recently a group of Caterpillar employees toured the PolyTraumatic Rehabilitation Center at Hunter Holmes Mcguire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. While touring the facility, they met with Dr. Shane McNamee, chief of physical medicine and <a href="http://www.polytrauma.va.gov/facilities/Richmond.asp"><strong>rehabilitation at the Department of Veterans Affairs</strong></a>, who is leading a program designed to accelerate rehabilitation and job placement for wounded veterans. One idea that came up was the opportunity for some of these warriors to find employment operating heavy equipment. Enter Cat® Simulators.</p> <p>Simulator training provides a way for operators to gain familiarization and understanding of machine controls and applications; and learn proper operating procedures before training on actual machines. The simulated environment affords a safe place to learn and make mistakes without harm to people, machines or the job site. Simulation training seemed the right first step for the program.</p> <p>Calls to key leaders at Caterpillar and Simformotion LLC, the licensee for Cat Simulators, resulted in immediate action. "The opportunity to give back to the veterans who protect and serve our country is an honor. Our ability to design and manufacture training simulators is a freedom we might not have someplace else," said Simformation CEO Ken Pflederer.</p> <p>Along with a Cat hydraulic excavator simulator, a Simformotion instructor arrived at the PolyTraumatic Rehab Center. More than 10 occupational, physical, kinesthetic and speech therapists were trained on the simulator. They'll soon begin instructing interested polytrauma veterans on a 50-100 hour training program on the excavator simulator. As the vets get ready for work on real iron, the rehab center will turn to Cat® dealer Carter Machinery for access to machines.</p> <p>Working together, teams at Caterpillar, Simformotion and the rehab center are helping create new opportunities for training and enabling wounded veterans to find satisfying careers in heavy equipment.</p> <p><img alt="Caterpillar and Simformotion work together to provide simulators for heavy equipment operation training for wounded verterans." src="http://www.caterpillar.com/cda/files/3400001/7/030912%20Working%20for%20Wounded%20Warriors.jpg"></p>

CT15 Engine offers Cat CT660 Vocational Truck customers greater horsepower and
torque for solid performance in demanding applications. The CT15 joins the CT11
and CT13 as the third engine option for the versatile Cat CT660. The 15-liter
engine is available with as much as 550 horsepower and <st1:chmetcnv hasspace="True" negative="False" numbertype="1" sourcevalue="1850" tcsc="0" unitname="lb" w:st="on">1,850 lb</st1:chmetcnv>-ft of torque, which will power the

<span lang="EN-US">The CT15 core is a
proven block and crankshaft with billions of miles of operation in demanding
truck applications. The dual sequential turbochargers and precisely controlled
high-pressure common-rail fuel system enable the CT15 to reach peak torque at
1,200 rpm.  The strong pulling power at
low engine speeds allows for shifting at lower speeds when accelerating and
reduces the need for shifting when powering up steep grades. Interstage cooling
between turbochargers increases air density to maintain power as speeds
increase. The result is enhanced productivity and less wear and tear on the
truck and driver.</span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">The CT15 also
offers an engine brake rated at more than 600 bhp—for industry leading
performance. The engine brake helps drivers maintain optimum speeds down steep
or long grades without frequent use of the service brakes. Proper use optimizes
productivity and lowers maintenance costs.</span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">Like the CT11 and
CT13, the Cat CT15 Engine features advanced emissions control technology that
helps keep truck weight down and simplifies maintenance. The EGR system reduces
NOx in-cylinder without requiring diesel emission fluid. The design eliminates
the emission fluid costs and associated maintenance time, and it effectively
increases the payload capacity of the truck. </span></div>

designed for reliable operation. The single electronic control module and fewer
electrical connections enhance reliability and reduce diagnostic and

premium cam and rolling element valve train reduce friction and operational
loads for reliable operation, extended durability and peak engine efficiency.
